The Vaccination Conversation

Blogs | 3 Minute Read

August is National Immunization Month, which is fitting since the topic of vaccinations has dominated many conversations after eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccine expanded in April 2021. Getting vaccinated is important for everyone. Those who suffer from underlying health conditions, such as diabetes and other immunocompromised diseases, are at an increased risk for developing serious complications from the virus—including death.

Luckily, immunizations offer substantial protection. To learn what kinds of activities you can participate in once you’re fully vaccinated, check out the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) website.

Diabetes puts you at higher risk

It’s important to get a COVID-19 vaccine, especially if you have diabetes

  • In one study, approximately half of those under the age of 65 who died due to complications from COVID-19 had diabetes
  • Studies have also shown that individuals with type 1 or type 2 diabetes were 2–3 times more likely to die from complications of the virus

If you or someone you know has diabetes or prediabetes, consider vaccination. Our lifestyle coaches can help reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by as much as 58%—and up to 71% in those who are older than 60. We are here to help, so there’s no need to struggle alone.

Take control of your health

Finding a local vaccination site has never been easier:

  1. Go to the CDC vaccination page
  2. Find a location near you
  3. Schedule an appointment

Remember to set a reminder so that you don’t forget your upcoming appointment—and be sure to tell your friends and family! Together, we can make this pandemic history.
